Son,
One day I’ll give you this bracelet, and when I do, I don’t want it to just be something you wear. I want you to understand what it stands for.
To me, this compass is about direction. Life isn’t always clear, and you won’t always know exactly what to do—but most of the time, you’ll have a sense of what’s right. This is a reminder to trust that and act on it, instead of overthinking or second-guessing yourself.
I believe kindness matters, but not in the way people sometimes make it sound. It’s not about being soft or letting people take advantage of you. It’s about how you treat people, even when it’s hard. Be respectful. Be patient when it makes sense. But also be honest and direct. If something needs to be said, say it. You can be a good person and still hold a standard.
You’re going to meet all kinds of people in your life. Some will respect you, some won’t. Some will put in the effort, some won’t. Don’t let that change how you carry yourself. Do things the right way because that’s who you are, not because of how others act.
At the same time, don’t ignore your instincts. If something feels off, it probably is. Trust yourself. You don’t need to give endless chances to people who aren’t willing to meet you halfway.
This bracelet is a reminder to stay steady. Do the right thing even when it’s inconvenient. Speak up when it would be easier to stay quiet. And don’t lose your direction just because things get difficult.
You don’t have to be perfect. Just keep moving in the right direction.
