Dax Rowbury: KAIZEN-Constant Improvement
Salt+Lake, Utah
At the time of writing this I am a senior in high school. I have experienced many highs and lows through my life. Many of them may seem small from an external view, but from my perspective they have helped me grow. I have realized as I have been through my life that I cannot just go through without pushing. If you’re not improving then you are going backwards. I was taught this vital lesson through the analogy of a river. If you don’t swim up stream you will be pulled back by the current. So just constantly improve. If you don’t give yourself the ability and the room to grow you never will. The first barrier you have to overcome in this is the mental barrier. If you can get it in your head that something can be done, your body will physically react to this stimulus of your thoughts. I have also learned to have the memory of a gold fish. If you go back on what you have done and not forward you will again begin to drift backwards. At the same time, don’t skip over learning experiences. If you don’t learn from previous mistakes, then you won’t be able to improve and instead continue to make the same mistakes. The best example of this I have personally has been my sports experience. I have put in so much time and effort into what I loved, and the year I felt it really mattered I came up short not just once but twice. And both times I just pushed through the pain of the loss and continued on with whatever I had to do next. I watched film and learned from my mistakes. I am really unsure of what all to put on this except for my experiences and what I believe can help others.
