I was given this compass from a man on a plane. He seemed awful wise, and we talked quite a bit about the camera that I was setting up on the plane. I let him fiddle with it and he really navigated it like he had spent a lot of time behind a camera. I asked him if he did photography and he said he did, and actually gave me his business card. I asked him if had advice for me, as I am beginning to get into photography, and he replied that “The camera is an instrument that teaches people how to see without the camera” and said that he had forgotten who he was quoting. This fella definitely had a sense of knowledge around him, but I didn’t press. Hopefully this necklace finds someone after I, and it doesn’t just end up in a landfill. I really hope I can find somebody who deserves it. Hard time in my life but this necklace feels strong, like its anchoring me, getting me through the days.
