July 4th, 2025, was my first major holiday after leaving a long-term relationship and marriage, and as I watched the fireworks alone, I wondered what life would look like in a day, a week, a month, or a year. Since that night, I have embarked on a year of self-discovery, dedicating an hour every single day to intentionally nurturing one of my five core pillars of well-being: Mental, Physical, Spiritual, Academic, and Social Health. While human relationships are imperative to our health—as we all yearn to love and be loved—few realize that the most important relationship is the one we have with ourselves. This past year has been a beautiful journey of self-reflection, looking in the mirror while also looking out the window, reminding me how essential it is to pause so we don’t get lost in the future or stuck treading water in the past. Whenever I feel overwhelmed, I put my hand over my heart to feel its rhythmic beat—the silent engine of life—as a powerful reminder that I am alive to do great things, to breathe in joy, and to feel raw, real emotion. I have learned that your peace is worth everything, and if people try to unbalance your equilibrium, you must find the strength to walk away from that relationship, job, or friendship. For me, traveling is what forces me to stitch life together, where every trip, experience, bump in the road, and new friendship injects life back into my soul. Looking back at that night a year ago, I smile knowing that I am so much better for it, as this journey has truly taught me the value of “The Dash”—that small line on a tombstone between birth and death representing how we spent our time on earth. I am choosing to live my dash with intention, peace, and courage. I purchased this bracelet after my New York trip because that adventure began in Times Square, famously nicknamed “The Crossroads of the World”—a perfect reflection of where I stood in my own life. Moving forward, this bracelet will serve as a token of my progress and a series of mile markers, reminding me to keep stitching life together, to honor my dash, and to always pursue the best version of myself, because you are your only true competition. Here is to many more mile markers, crossed thresholds, and the continuous discovery of this beautiful thing we call life—knowing that just like the fireworks that started this journey, it takes a little darkness to truly appreciate the light and brilliance of your own explosion.
