I was given my compass bracelet while on vacation in St. Thomas. I know I’m supposed to give it to someone and I’m almost hesitant to do so since the bracelet has been a great traveling buddy. Since I received it in September, 2017, we’ve had some amazing adventures.
After St. Thomas, we got back on the cruise ship and visited Aruba, Bonaire, and Curacao. When he got back to Puerto Rico, we were stranded at the airport because hurricane Irma had just made landfall and was headed towards Florida. There were no flights to the east coast. Luckily, we were able to get on a connecting flight from Chicago to SF.
In November, my compass bracelet joined me on a bday trip to Italy. We enjoyed the outdoor museum and cultural marvel that is Rome. Visited the leaning tower of Pisa, ate delicious food in Florence, and shopped till we dropped in Milan.
In December, we went to San Francisco and rode a rickshaw from Pier 39 to the ice skating rink.
In January, we headed down to Orange County. It was a work top, but I got to see my cousins who I don’t see often because I live in the Bay Area. We ate sushi, drank a little, and laughed a lot.
In January we also went to visit my sister and nephews in San Antonio, Texas. We went to the Pearl district, played top golf for the first time, rode a boat down the riverwalk, and even went on safari. It was a fun trip made better by spending it with family.
In February we went to Oahu for a week. We hiked Diamond head, Koko head (steps of torture, but so worth the view at the top), lanikai pill box, and lulumahu falls. We visited Pearl Harbor and took a tour of the USS Missouri. We saw beautiful, bright colored fish while snorkeling in Hanauma Bay, and watched 10 foot waves in awe at Waimea beach.
It was in Oahu that I decided to pass my compass bracelet on. I gave it to my good friend Brooke who was on assignment as a traveling nurse in Hawaii. I hope it brings her as much traveling luck as it did me.
