As a retired person, the choices of how I spend my time are more my own than directed by others. God opened my eyes to a need in our church office where the staff is serving in multiple positions, which can make even the most devoted person weary. This is where I had the opportunity to grow closer to two lovely ladies who serve faithfully and truly reflect the light of God to our church members. This week, I was given the bracelet, which to me was a great compliment; it reminded me that by a simple act of kindness, you can give others the gift of your time and attention, and let them know what they do matters to others. Kindness cannot be scheduled or be something to check off your daily list of to-dos. To Christians, it is a God-given awareness of what others face and the nudging of the Holy Spirit to do what you can for them. This is not the same thing as “fixing others”. It can be praying for them, giving them a smile, a compliment, a funny card, or just letting them know you noticed how special they are. My bracelet will remind me to look for kindness in others and that when you smile at others, it is difficult for them not to smile back.
The bracelet is a reminder that an act of kindness is impactful.
My friend gave it to me after seeing me give a beautiful chef’s knife to The chef who had created fabulous meals for seven of us on a wonder filled private cruise in the Inside Passage in Alaska. Chef Stacie was passionate and kind and she made Our once in a lifetime adventure even more special. I will pass this bracelet on to someone who I embodies kindness and inspires others with it.
A dear friend gave this to me after telling me a beautiful story about how she received the bracelet. I have worked for our church for almost 17 years and always try to give my best in everything I do. I love this place and the congregation has indeed become my family. I believe showing kindness is my life purpose and one of my only gifts. I am honored to wear this bracelet and I remember the givers' thoughtfulness every time I look at it. I am inspired to give this bracelet to someone who shows genuine kindness and compassion to others.
